Healthy Horses Equine Massage

Did you know that 60% of a horse's total body weight is made of of muscle?

A muscle is a band of fibers which stretch and contract. Anytime a muscle is worked, it is subjected to “knotting up” which affects movement of the muscle.  These knots can cause the entire muscle to spasm and can range from mild to searing pain.  Humans can seek medical help, exercise, obtain medication, but a horse is entirely dependent on their human for help.  Equine Sports Massage Therapy is a non-invasive massage designed to relieve these muscles by providing a full body massage to work on over 25 muscle groups.

Equine Sports Massage Therapy can benefit horses with:

·         Tying Up

·         Relieve Tension

·         Balance & Coordination

·         Lateral Bending

·         Girth Discomfort

·         Tracking Evenly

·         Forward Impulsion

·         Cribbing

·         Stumbling

·         And much more!

How Does Sports Massage Therapy Differ from other forms of massage?

Sports Massage therapy focuses on the cause of the muscle injury.  The intent is to not only relieve the muscular pain, but PREVENT future injures to this muscle.

Does Sports Massage Therapy benefit all disciplines?

Yes, different disciplines put more or less stress on certain muscles, but all can greatly benefit from the massage therapy. A Sports Massage is always a FULL body massage, but certain areas may need special attention.  For example, a hunter/jumper horse will be more reactive in the Poll, Shoulder and T1 areas and a Dressage horse will be more reactive in the neck, shoulder and point of hip.
